About Us
Eyecare with a difference
The Oculists is an Independent Optometry practice located in the heart of Bundaberg.
Our optometrists Stephen and Jen have a combined experience of over 30 years and have taken the best of their experience to create the practice you see today.

Our Story
Since graduating from university, we’ve had the opportunity to travel and work across Australia and New Zealand. In 2017, we took a leap of faith and moved to Bundaberg—a town we had never visited before. We were instantly captivated by the stunning coastline, the relaxed lifestyle, and, most of all, the wonderful people.

Today, we’re proud to call Bundaberg home and feel privileged to care for the Wide Bay Community.
We wanted to create a practice we could truly call our own. From our purpose-built clinic to the state-of-the-art equipment and carefully hand-selected frames, every detail has been chosen with our patients in mind. It is our intention that your visit feels as relaxed and welcoming as the idyllic beaches that surround our region.
Welcome to The Oculists where we hope you enjoy the warm welcome, the beautiful atmosphere, and exceptional eye care.
Meet the Team

Stephen Everard
B.Optom (Hons) Therapeutically qualified
Stephen has become a friendly, trusted face in the Wide Bay community. Having worn glasses since the age of four, he has always been fascinated by how the eyes work and can personally relate to the challenges of needing glasses and contact lenses.

What Stephen values most about his role is not just providing eye care, but also connecting with his patients—listening to their stories, joys, and struggles.

Outside of the clinic, Stephen enjoys running and woodworking. On weekends, you’ll often find him in the workshop, building little projects with his son.

Jennifer Chi
B.Optom (Hons) Therapeutically qualified
Jen has always loved travelling and, before settling in Bundaberg, worked as a locum across regional Australia. She has also worked alongside a local ophthalmologist, co-managing conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, cataracts, and dry eye.

What Jen values most is forming genuine connections with her patients and their families, helping them feel supported and understood throughout their eye care journey.

Outside of work, Jen enjoys time with her young family and expressing her creativity through art projects with her kids, cake decorating, and photography.
